Red Diamond is the first of the Gems to be discovered by Kongo on the Shore of Nascency where all Gems are "born".

Appearance[]

At first, Red Diamond has a more crystalline appearance without proper eyes or flexible limbs like how all Gems are "born". Kongo shaped them, smoothed out their features, and gave them eyes. He later also applied a skin paste because Red Diamond wanted to look more like him. Red Diamond has a red color scheme and is depicted as wearing a white dress that resembles an oversized shirt. Their hair is cut in a medium bob with straight cut bangs.

Manga Spoiler

As of Chapter 95, Red Diamond has become a Lunarian and therefore has lost their unique red color.

End of spoiler.

Personality[]

Red Diamond is shown to be a very cheerful and curious Gem who acts like a child. They quickly developed a fondness for Kongo, who became their caretaker. When the both of them discovered the next Gem, Red Diamond asked Kongo to help them, thus leading to the creation of The School where all Gems would be housed.

Story[]

Red Diamond is first seen dropping at the shore of Nascency. They are seen with no eyes and very rough edges around their whole body. They attempt to reach out to Kongo, but end up falling down. Kongo, remembering the ancient creatures that once lived, decided to grant them a chance in life, first by making the gem eyes made out of their inclusions, and carving Red Diamond until they resemble these ancient beings. Kongo also gives the gem clothes, educates the gem, and attempts to give them food, but Red Diamond refuses. Finally, under the request of Red Diamond to look like Kongo, he makes a powder that gives the gem their white skin.

Red Diamond then discovers another gem down at the Shore of Nascency, and drags Kongo to it. Kongo names the gem Fluorite. Red Diamond asks Kongo to help. Kongo explains that due to the fact Fluorite is much weaker, they need to build a facility in order to protect the gem from the blowing sands. He then suggests to mold a large piece of quartz in a living space, to which The School where the gems currently live is created.

Somewhere between the introduction of Fluorite and the start of the manga, Red Diamond is abducted and taken to the Moon.

Red Diamond is the fastest reforming Gem of Barbata's Gem Restoration Project, displaying half a face by the time he shows Phosphophyllite what he is doing.

The Gem Restoration Project is cancelled, after Phosphophyllite goes to Earth and gets destroyed, but due to Amethyst invention, they are turned into a Lunarian along with all the other gems.

Gem Info[]

  • Mineral: Diamond
  • Chemistry: C
  • Color: Red

Diamond (from the ancient Greek ἀδάμας – adámas, meaning "unbreakable", "proper", or "unalterable") is one of the best-known and most sought-after gemstones. Diamond is the only gem made of a single element: It is typically about 99.95 percent carbon. The other 0.05 percent can include one or more other elements which can influence its color or crystal shape. Red diamond is known to be the rarest and most expensive variety of colored diamonds. It is unknown what causes red diamond to have its red color.

It forms under high temperature and pressure conditions that exist only within a specific depth range (about 100 miles) beneath the earth’s surface. Diamond’s crystal structure is isometric, which means the carbon atoms are bonded in essentially the same way in all directions.

Trivia[]

  • In real life, the cause of the color of red diamond is debated, though one common theory is that a deformation occurs during the formation of the diamond. In the manga, Kongo states that Red Diamond's color is due to the displacement of carbon atoms adjacent to carbon and nitrogen during formation.
