Diamond (ダイヤモンド, Daiyamondo) is the third chapter of Haruko Ichikawa's manga Land of the Lustrous.
Summary[]
After promising Cinnabar that they would find a better job for them, Phos becomes troubled since they can't come up with any ideas to help. They complain to Jade who was walking by. Kongo-sensei also appears and tells the two to behave since he is leaving to meditate. As he leaves, Jade is unexpectedly hit with a hammer by Rutile, who is making their centennial toughness inspection. Rutile explains the difference between toughness and hardness while wrestling with an annoyed Jade, finishing their inspection and then leaving. Jade suggests that Phos ask Diamond for ideas as they'd seen them[ experimenting with a new fighting technique.
Phos finds Diamond alone on patrol and surprises them by sneaking up on them. Dia answers Phos' problem by suggesting that they change and do things they normally don't do. Suddenly a sunspot appears and Dia engages the Moon People with their new technique of flinging their spears and arrows back at them as projectiles. Phos is amazed by this technique, but then hears a strange sound. Dia's sword suddenly slips from their hands and they are about to be hit by a barrage of spears. Bort quickly shows up and saves Dia, giving the latter a glare before dispatching the Moon People. As Bort fights, Diamond reveals to Phos that they are always being saved by Bort to the point that Bort doesn't even let them fight anymore. Dia confesses that they sometimes wonder what it would be like if Bort wasn't here and chastises themselves for having such thoughts even though they love Bort so much.
Bort finishes the fight and grabs Dia's hand, pulling off their glove and revealing that their new fighting technique has broken their arm. Bort scolds Dia and they both argue. Phos interrupts and Bort threatens to turn them into dust before another sunspot suddenly appears. The sunspot ignores the trio and heads towards the school. Phos remembers that Kongo-sensei is meditating causing the trio to panic.

- In the manga, the sound made by Diamond's fighting technique is described as a snapping sound whereas in the anime it is a ringing sound.
